a. AAO teams up with Redstone

The AAO is pleased to announce a new partnership with Redstone Association Management! The move will mean quicker responses to member queries, more streamlined payment for workshop facilitators, and lots of great additional support for the AAO. Redstone will be taking over our association management on October 1, 2022.

b.  New Website Design!

Have you checked out the AAO’s new website design? Tiffany Ribeiro, AAO Web Administrator, just launched the newly refreshed AAO website to improve the usability, findability, and accessibility of AAO resources. Key features include:

• a new and refreshed design with a modern feel
• easier navigation to find what you need when you need it
• Members now have access to a page designed to share content that only they have access to
• our publications are now consolidated onto a single page
• ever wondered what Archeion is? Check out our new About Archeion page to get all the details including a #FeatureFriday section, where each second Friday of the month we will feature an institution in Archeion and interesting selections from their collection

c. 2022 AAO Leadership Meeting

The 2022 AAO Leadership Meeting will take place on October 27, 2022. This meeting is a chance for the AAO Board, chairs, and staff to discuss the 2022-2023 year, set priorities, and plan for the year ahead.

The 2022 edition of the MAIGazine, the annual newsletter for those interested in Ontario’s municipal archives and municipal records, is now available! You can find it here alongside previous issues.

e. Upcoming Free Workshop - An Introduction to the Reconciliation Framework Workshop

The AAO Board of Directors invites you to participate in a free, members-only online training on the Reconciliation Framework.

In late February 2022, the Response to the Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Taskforce (TRC-TF) of the Steering Committee on Canada’s Archives (SCCA) released its Reconciliation Framework. This report was the result of over five years of SSHRC-funded research, relationship building, and collaboration across Canada between representatives of the Canadian archival community and Indigenous heritage professionals and practitioners.

The Framework provides direction, through recommendations for action, to be taken by Canadian archivists who are ready to embark upon their own personal and professional journey towards reconciliation through respectful relationship building with Indigenous communities represented in their repositories. The Framework also serves to reinforce and support First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities’ intellectual sovereignty over records by, or about them, and encourages the reconceptualization of mainstream archival theory, practice and education.

This 90 minute webinar will feature five members of the Taskforce, who will describe the process of developing the Reconciliation Framework, an introduction to the Framework itself and the next steps in their work. This will be followed by Q&A and discussion.

f. Upcoming Professional Development Committee (PDC) workshop - A Beginners Guide to Monetary Appraisal of Archives

The Professional Development Committee presents 

A Beginner’s Guide to Monetary Appraisal of Archives.

This half-day workshop will present the processes of monetary appraisal as they are applied in the Canadian archival context, led by Simon Rogers and Curtis Sassur. We will discuss pre-appraisal, tax implications, donor relations, relevant organizations and legislation, and the monetary appraisal process in a practical half day "how to" session. The workshop will be broken into four half hour sections:

• Summary of monetary appraisal of archival fonds, historically and in contemporary practice,
• Case study of an archival fonds,
• Recent developments and understanding of the monetary appraisal of electronic records, and
• Case study of electronic archival fonds.

When: October 27, 2022, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm EST
