d. The Brian King Fabulous Researcher Fund – Call for applications 2023

Founded in 1973, The ArQuives has grown to become one of the largest LGBTQ2+ archives in the world. By collecting and caring for vital historical records, personal papers, unpublished documents, publications, audiovisual material, works of art, photographs, posters, and other artifacts, The ArQuives is a trusted guardian of LGBTQ2+ histories and will be for generations to come.

The ArQuives created The Brian King Fabulous Researcher Fund in 2016 to honour the memory of former volunteer Brian King, one of the original Flashback Gala creators. Brian’s enthusiasm and devotion to the organization are legendary. The Brian King Fabulous Researcher Fund enables researchers outside of Toronto to travel to The ArQuives to conduct research.

Applications are open to Canadian and international scholars, graduate students, artists, cultural producers, and other independent researchers with an established research agenda who wish to conduct research at The ArQuives. The application is due January 29, 2023.

Applications should explain the research project’s focus, methodology, and engagement with existing scholarship. The application should also describe the intended product and The ArQuives’ collection(s) to be used during the proposed grant. Applicants new to The ArQuives collections are encouraged to consult our Online Collections Portal or our Digital Exhibitions sites.

The ArQuives has a COVID Vaccine and Safety Policy for all staff, volunteers, and researchers. Proof of vaccination is required for all researchers. Any applicants with exemptions due to medical reasons or religious beliefs must submit accommodation requests.
